Former Vice President Amissah Arthur died on Friday, June 29, 2018. He was said to have collapsed during a morning workout session. A member of the NDC believes NDC’s unfair treatment to Amissah-Arthur caused his death Ghanaians woke up on the Friday morning of June 29, 2018, to hear the sad news of the death of former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.

He was said to have collapsed during a morning workout at the Airforce Gym where he himself had drove to to exercise. The former vice president was reported to have been rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Following his demise, many Ghanaians including former President John Mahama and President Akufo-Addo have all expressed deep shock.

But a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and founder as well as president of the party’s Serial Callers Association of Western Region, William Gyima, popularly known as Abeiku Prestea, said the NDC is to blame for Paa Kwesi’death. According to Abeiku Prestea, the NDC did not treat Amissah-Arthur fairly.

Explaining his point, the president of the NDC Serial Callers Association said the NDC neglected Amissah-Arthur after the party went into opposition in 2016. He claimed that the former Governor of Bank of Ghana was frustrated and as a result of over thinking and disappointment from his own party, he died suddenly.

He also alleged the party had plans to select a new person as a running mate should the former President John Mahama contest and win the upcoming NDC presidential primaries, which was a disheartening news to the former BOG Governor.

Mr. Gyima buttressed his point saying the leadership of the party never involved the late Amissah Arthur in the 'Unity Walks' and only gave the platforms to former President Mahama to market himself.

"Our leadership didn't try well at all for deliberately ignored Mr. Amissah Arthur from the Unity Walks and gave the platforms to Mr. John Mahama, and these things contributed to his death and I also blamed Mr. John Mahama for also neglecting Mr. Amissah", he explained.

"How can somebody who was not sick passed on just like that, this is serious, late Amissah Arthur was not treated fairly, his soul rest in perfect peace," he added. Mr. Gyima expressed his deepest condolences to the former President's family and to all members of the NDC.

Former President, John Mahama has spoken highly of the deceased Amissah-Arthur for actively supporting his administration and helping to put Ghana on the path of growth and development.

“Paa Kwesi was a quintessential gentleman who brought immense knowledge, decency and integrity to governance and public service.

“His passing has left a huge void in our nation and we are overwhelmed with grief,” former President Mahama said. Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, before becoming a vice president in 2012, was the governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012, at the appointment of late former President Atta-Mills.
