SERAMA supports Edwenase rehabilitation centre

SERAMA, a Kumasi-based sandals manufacturing company, has extended a hand of support to the Edwenasa Rehabilitation Centre in Kumasi.

The Centre is a government institution under the Department of Social Welfare. It houses persons with various forms of disability. The Centre aims to train them to acquire vocational skills. Some of these skills include beading, leather works, and sewing. The ultimate goal is to empower them to live decent lives without having to resort to begging or reliance on family members for their survival.

The CEO of SERAMA, Ama Serwaa Kyei, said SERAMA was in the same line of business (craft) so her team decided to visit and encourage residents of the centre. Apart from the donation of a first-aid box, drugs and assorted food items, SERAMA also presented a sewing machine to help in the training of those who are into dressmaking.

A team from SERAMA first visited to inquire about the needs and challenges of the facility, and the assistance it needed. The most pressing one, according to managers of the place, was a first-aid box with tools and drugs.

Ama Serwaa Kyei said SERAMA would do more in the coming years to partner the Edwenasa Rehabilitation Centre achieve its goal of giving hope and a decent future to persons with disability.

She said SERAMA was focused on setting aside a percentage of every sale it makes to help fund programmes that would uplift the less privileged in society.
