Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman is certain to leave Schalke in January in pursuit of regular first team action.
The 24-year-old met manager Domenico Tedesco before Christmas to express his desire to leave.
Rahman has been o loan at the German club from English giants Chelsea.
He was expected to regain regular first-team action having returned from a protracted spell on the sidelines.
But things have not gone as planned as the former Augsburg man has struggled to play regularly at Schalke.
Rahman has now secured the permission of manager Tedesco to leave Schalke in January.
It is, however, unclear where the Ghana international will move to with clubs in England, Spain, Turkey, and Italy interested.
A decision on where Baba will move to is expected to be made in the coming days and the move will be made official by the new year.
