Championship outfit Stoke City are looking to snap up Daniel Amartey from his Leicester City hell in the winter transfer window.

The struggling Championship side must first clear their bloated squad before new additions can be added but Amartey is one player who interest manager Michael O'Neill.

Amartey since his recovery from a long term injury has lost his place in the Leicester City team and is weighing his options at the club.

He is yet to feature for the Foxes in any competition this term and manager Brendan Rodgers has shown clearly that he does not count on the versatile Ghanaian player.

Amartey is looking to get competitive minutes under his belt after being stuck on the sidelines since breaking his ankle in October 2018 and his only appearance this season has come for the under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Brendan Rodgers has in the past spoken about his fringe players and how he keeps them united and happy.

“It’s not hard to keep the squad happy but I have empathy for the guys because we’re only at the level we’re at because of the players that aren’t playing," he said.

"We’ve got guys like Wes Morgan, Marc Albrighton, Christian Fuchs, Demarai Gray, Dennis Praet, all these guys aren’t starting games.

"There’s Papy Mendy, who had been playing a lot of games [last season], and Daniel Amartey, those two aren’t even in the squad. There’s Hamza Choudhury.

"Their mentality and focus allows us to be the best that we can. It’s my job to manage that, I speak a lot with the players, they understand where it’s at, they’re clear on where they stand within the squad.

"I recognise how difficult it is, but they never show it. They turn up every day to train, to be the best they can be."
