Clutching his man-of-the-match award and reflecting on a sixth strike of the season, Albert Adomah should have been happy with his match-winning performance against Fulham.

Instead he was left feeling ANGRY.

Why? Because he’s scored more goals than he’s set up this season!

Yes, you heard it right. Adomah wants to set up more than he scores.

And he would have taken more pleasure in Ritchie De Laet converting the late chance he laid on for him, rather than grabbing the deciding goal himself.

“I know when I score goals it’s great, but for me, I’d rather have an assist,” he said after Villa's 2-1 win over Fulham.

“It’s going well and we’re winning games, and I’ll be honest, I was looking forward to putting my one into the back of the net.

“But you’ll really see me jumping for joy when I get my first assist in the league.

“I hope I’m not waiting too long, I’m sure it will come.”

Adomah finished last season as Villa’s most creative player with the highest number of assists in the team.

But asked whether he would swap it for a place as the top goalscorer this term, he replied: “Obviously I don’t want to put pressure on myself because it’s down to the strikers to score goals and it’s down to me to create for them to score.

“But if I happen to be top scorer – like I was at Middlesbrough even though we had eight strikers in my first season there – then fine.”

Adomah’s impressive strike-rate back in 2013/14 saw him bang in 12 goals for Boro.

He’s already bagged half of that amount for Villa this season and we’re only in October.

“I used to be a striker back in the day but I’m an old man now!” he joked.

“It’s a good ratio but I want to create more goals.

“I know the goals are helping the team but if I get my first assist, you will see a happy man.

“I like to score, don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to take anything away, but in my position I need to be more creative.

“I’m a winger and last season I finished with the top assists here and I’m trying to achieve that again but at the moment I’m doing the opposite and I’m scoring goals.

“So I’ll just have to keep on scoring goals if that helps the team.”

Adomah lost his place in the team at the start of the season but was recalled after an injury to Andre Green.

The left-wing is not his natural position but he’s played there at Middlesbrough and is just happy to be back involved.

“As a player, when a manager comes in, you know he is going to sign his players, which the gaffer did,” Adomah admitted.

“I knew I did nothing wrong but he had his players which he trusted and this is what happens in football, sometimes.

“If you’re a player, you have to be patient, and he played his players ahead of me.
