Class one referee Ali Alhassan from Tamale was kicked, slapped and chased across the field by irate players, fans and team officials after issuing a yellow card during a division one league match between Unity FC and Techiman City FC.

The incident took place a week after another referee Kyei-Andoh lost his life in a second division game in the western region.

The trouble began when a Unity FC player was penalized for fisting the ball into the net of Techiman City in the 25th minute of the game.

The home fans who thought the referee should have awarded a goal, pounced on him, seized his card and tore his dresses.

Despite the presence of 5 police officers on duty, fans of Unity FC managed to scale the inner perimeter and attacked the referee in the full glare of Ghana Football Association Ethics committee chairman Nana Adjei Ampofo.

The game was held temporarily for 35 minutes when the referee was giving some medication and was forced by the home fans to continue with the match.

Unity FC won the game 1-0
