Chinese side Shanghai SIPG have demoted striker Asamoah Gyan to the reserves due to recurrent injuries.

Gyan, 30, joined the Super League side from Al Ain for an undisclosed fee.

However, it was later revealed that he was offered a staggering £227,000 per week compensation to make him one of the highest-paid footballers in the world.

But the iconic Ghana international has failed to meet the huge expectation due to recurring injuries that has kept him from playing at 100%.

The arrival of Brazilian striker Hulk from Zenit Saint Petersburg has fueled speculations he could be shipped out to free the club's wages.

The former Sunderland hitman has falling off the perking order and demoted to the club's reserves amid his injury nightmare.

Gyan made only 10 appearances for the Red Eagles in his first season, scoring four times.

He has made a total of 17 appearances and scored 10 goals in the process, which are pretty decent if only he could remain healthy and more effective.

But again, he has made only 17 appearances and netted three times this season, leading to the decision to drop him to the reserve despite his huge wages.

There have been widespread reports he could be tracked by West Ham United, who

are in search of a top-striker ahead of the new season.

The Hammers are seen as a perfect location for a striker who is seen as a 'complex character'.

He is Ghana's all-time leading scorer with 48 goals in over 90 appearances.
