Asamoah Gyan resumes role as Black Stars' penalty taker

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has officially rescinded his decision not to take penalty kicks for the Black Stars.

Gyan confirmed he will make himself available by taking penalties for the National team.

The Kayserspor attacker had initially ruled himself away from taking spot kicks for Ghana after two crucial misses at the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Cup of Nation.

The former Al Ahli striker says he has withdrawn his decision against taking spot kicks for the Black Stars.

“Yes I had initially stated I was not going to take penalty kicks for Ghana, but I have reflected on it and I have decided to start taking it again,” he said on GTV.

“I know Ghanaians are disappointed because I have missed a couple of penalty kicks in crucial games but as a footballer, that has been the only challenge in my career.

“For now, I have decided to go back and take penalties for the Black Stars and break that jinx, I wanted to break that jinx in the game against USA but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

“But for now I have decided to take penalty kicks for the Black Stars again.”

The 31-year-old is currently Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals to his credit.
