Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams
Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has disclosed that every player in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive an appearance fee of $100,000, maintaining the amount paid in recent tournaments.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based TV3, the Minister explained that appearance fees for Black Stars players have varied over the years, ranging from $50,000 and $80,000 in earlier editions to as much as $120,000, before being standardized at $100,000.
According to him, the government has decided not to increase the fee despite the recent strengthening of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.

“The appearance fee has been pegged at $100,000 for quite some time, and this year it remains the same. We have not changed it,” Kofi Adams stated.
Addressing suggestions that players should receive a higher amount because of the cedi’s improved performance, the Minister argued that the same logic would not apply if the local currency had weakened.
“Some say because the cedi has become stronger, we should increase it, and we said no. If the cedi had become weaker, would you have said we should reduce the dollar amount so that it gives the same cedi equivalent? You wouldn’t,” he said.
The Minister commended government efforts to stabilise and strengthen the local currency, insisting that the existing appearance fee remains appropriate for the national team players.
