Daniel Agyei happy with contract extension

Ghanaian wonderkid Daniel Agyei has expressed his delight after penning a contract extension at English Premier League side Burnley.

Agyei came through the ranks at AFC Wimbledon, scoring 35 goals for the club's under-21 team in the 2014/15 season before signing Burnley on a long-term contract to initially play for the club's development squad.

Following his impressive displays for Burnley's development squad in the 2015/16 season, he was promoted to the first team by manager Sean Dyche.

The 20-year-old was shipped on loan to League One side Blackpool after failing to nail down starting berth and has flourished as one the side's key figures.

As a reward for his ever-improving performances, the Clarets offered the Ghanaian striker a 12-month contract extension on Monday - which he signed without hesitation.

"Striker Daniel Agyei has signed a new contract to extend his stay at Turf Moor," the club announced via their official website.

"Agyei, who made his Premier League debut and a total of three substitute appearances for the Clarets at the end of last season, will be back in the fold for pre-season as the former AFC Wimbledon youngster looks to make a further mark at Turf Moor.

"Agyei has agreed a 12-month contract after returning to Burnley following two spells out on loan in League One this season."

"I'm delighted to be staying," said, the youngster.

"Hopefully I can come back next season and kick on and try and push for a place in the team."

Agyei made three Premier League appearances for Burnley in 2016-17 before being sent on loan this campaign.

He could earn his maiden call up into the Ghana national team in their next international fixture following a fruitful meeting with Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah last month at his UK base.
