Former England International Darren Bent has revealed that Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu is frustrated with his bit part role for Newcastle United this season.

The Ghanaian International who has perpetually been on the fringes at Newcastle thought his time had come after he started most of the club's matches at the beginning of new coach Steve Bruce's reign but the Ghanaian although has played in Newcastle united's last 10 matches but has made small cameo appearances in his last five of them.

Steve Bruce prefers to play Allax Saint Maximin and Paraguay International Miguel Almiron and despite varied level of success the club has been winning their matches in recent times.

Speaking to Football Insider he former Sunderland and Tottenham striker shared he could understand why Atsu would be frustrated as he pointed out everything was going against him at the moment with the Magpies picking up results without him.

“It’s tough as where do you play him?

“You’ve got Saint-Maximin one side and Almiron the other side, who hasn’t got that goal yet, but he’s still creating, he could score and he is a still threat.

“Atsu likes to play out wide so that means you have to drop one of them and at the minute he can’t get in, he can’t be played as a centre-forward as they have Joelinton there so it’s tough.

“I can understand his frustration but I think deep down he’ll probably look around and accept it and the team are also picking up results, so it’s all going against him at the minute.”

The 27 year old Ghanaian International who joined Newcastle from Chelsea in 2017 has not enjoyed regular game time with the Magpies but has contributed 2 goals in 10 games so far in the English Premiership.
