This month Lizzy sports complex will celebrate one year of existence in Ghana and over the last twelve (12) months that it has been operating in Ghana it has become the epitome of a world class ultra-modern sports complex.
A multi-purpose sports complex put up by former France football captain Marcel Desailly after an illustrious playing career which saw him win the FIFA World Cup with France in 1998 and the European championship in the year 2000. Marcel Desailly’s career also saw him play for Italian giants AC Milan and current European club champions Chelsea FC.
Named after his beloved mother Elizabeth Addy, the Lizzy Sports Complex situated at East Legon is Marcel’s little contribution to Ghana after his inability to play for the Black Stars during his playing days.
Lizzy Sports Complex is an all in one complex; it has top quality grass football pitches, changing rooms, a semi Olympic size swimming pool for both adults and children and a multi-purpose court for basketball and handball.
The facility also has 16 bedrooms guest for football clubs.
During the launch of the facility last year Marcel Desailly said the aim of the facility is to contribute to the organization of community sports competitions and serve as a recreational centre for sports men and women, families, students and corporate organizations.
So far the complex is doing just that with a variety of innovative competitions and leagues currently ongoing at the Lizzy sports complex. The Samsung corporate league leads the pack on a number of exciting packages that awaits any individual or corporate body that wants to experience the Lizzy sports magic.
The Samsung corporate league; a first of its kind in Ghana comprises 16 corporate bodies who compete with each other on Friday and Saturday evenings to discover which company will come up tops in the end.
The league is aimed at fostering strong relations between the participating institutions and offers a great escape for workers after a stressful week of work.
The competition which is based on all play all concepts where all participants will get the chance to play each other twice only employs the use of players below age 25.
The matches are played in two halves of 40 minutes each. There is a two week break at the end of the first round to allow for registration of new players just as is done in professional leagues across the world. Lizzy sports complex has also become famous for its training programme for aspiring footballers.
Participants are taken through the basics and the attitude needed to reach the very top as an athlete.
Football or soccer is not the only thing taught at Lizzy sports. Other sporting disciplines taught at the complex include swimming lessons. Children swimming lessons Includes introduction to water, breath control, floating and water safety. Adult swimming lessons are also done for those hoping to learn to swim, improve their strokes and increase their endurance. Basketball is also a regular feature at Lizzy sports complex. A great place for young players to improve their skills, work hard, make new friends and have fun especially during the summer breaks.
Lizzy sports complex has in recent times become a home away from home for most of Ghana’s premier league sides as well as some international national teams.
Former Ghana premier league champions Accra Hearts of Oak have been camping at the East Legon facility for the last six months and managers of the Phobian club say it has been worth the time since it’s a one stop sports complex. Ghana’s sole representatives in this year’s CAF Champions league Berekum Chelsea have also used the facility recently.
Other international national teams and clubs that have also used the Lizzy sports complex include Asec Mimosa of the Ivory Coast, the Ivorian National team and the Nigerian U-23 male football team.
All teams that have used the facility left with a great sense of satisfaction. Chief Marketing Officer of MD Investments (Managers of the Lizzy Sports Complex) Jamil Marabi believes that before long the complex will become the preferred destination of all football/sports teams in Africa and beyond.
“Currently we are equivalent to a three star hotel anywhere in the world but we hope to upgrade it to at least a four star to make the experience even better. We are currently in talks with the Ghana football association to make all the national teams use our facilities and it’s looking good. Infrastructure is lacking in our part of the world and thankfully Lizzy sports complex has come to fill that void.” Jamil added.
Lizzy sports complex is indeed a complete sports facility. The gymnasium, shopping mall and the spa makes it the more amazing.
Make sure you pass by one of these days to have a firsthand experience of the magic that makes Lizzy sports complex the truly world class complex it is.
