Disappointing Soccer

Mon, 31 May 2004 Source: Kwasi Amo-Mensah

The weekend has given us sad news with the exit of Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko from the Champions League and King Faisal from the CAF Cup Competion. If some of these things happen it makes us regret following the game of football. Soccer was wicked and unscientific to book-makers who had predicted qualification for all the four Ghanaian clubs in continental competitions.

My heart missd a beat upon reading on the exit of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in the African Champions league. When again Kotoko? When again Hearts? When are we going to see the trophy in Ghana again? But that is the game of football for us. Well done King Faisal for going that far but its so painful they could not get to the next stage. They are an emerging side as far as continental soccer is concerned and so next attempt would be better, but Kotoko which has over the years been yearning and yearning to get to this level being showned the exit? I cannot believe this.

All attempt by Hearts to get to the "money zone" of the cmpetition have failed since they won it in 2000.What has been happening Phobia? I dont know how fans in Ghana are going to accept this continental fiasco. Bravo Liberty Professionals! for gaining qualification to the next stage of the CAF Cup competition.

Nobody is trying to curse soccer but if continues to do this to us, it makes us loose trust reposed in it. This is the time the players need our support. Benard Don Bortey, Stephen Oduro and Michael Ofosu Appiah should be left out of blame since they are not the first group of people to waste penalty. I dont want to mention names who have sent teers down our cheecks in a similar way. Fans should excercise patience for the clubs. It is painful, but please lets accept it as one of those things in football and re-affirm our support for the clubs. We would smile again one day , but ask when. I believe soon.
