As the season for the Rio Olympics is drawing nearer by the day,many athlete across various disciplines are preparing for their preliminary or final qualification rounds to the Olympics games in Rio,Mr Johnson Aboagye the former president of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), has cautioned various athlete about cultivating the habit of taking banned substances in their respective sports.
The former President told sportscrusader.com in an interview that “there is no doubt about the competition in the sports now,nonetheless it shouldn’t grant any athlete to cultivate the habit especially in the sports of weightlifting”.
In competitive sports, doping refers to the use of banned athletic performance-enhancing drugs by athletic competitors, where the term doping is widely used by organizations that regulate sporting competitions.
The use of drugs to enhance performance is considered unethical by most international sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Doping is not confined to a limited few individuals, rather it is a widespread major problem in a number of sports throughout the world.
Any athlete who is caught doping could face disqualification of results in an event,suspension or the imposition of ineligibility for a period of time and a reprimand and no period of eligibility in their respective.
