Former Ghana and Juventus midfielder Stephen Appiah has revealed how he got his 'Tornado' nickname.
It appears these days that the majority of players have been given one kind of nickname or other, however, some are most definitely more catchy and memorable than others.
Appiah, who is arguably one of Ghana's greatest players to have graced the green turf, was widely known as 'Tornado' during his active playing days.
Now 39, Appiah has narrated how he came by the Tornado nickname during an interview with South Africa sports journalist Carol Tshabalala which was monitored by GHANAsoccernet.com
"I got the name Tornado after during [Parma] game against Juventus in the Coppa Italia final. I was all over the pitch and the commentator was saying that this guy is strong like a Tornado. That's where I got the name," Appiah disclosed.
Parma won the 2001/02 Coppa Italia for the 3rd time in club history after defeating Juventus in the finals, winning on the away goals rule with an aggregate score of 2-2.
