Sports journalist, Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, has claimed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is putting measures in place to revamp the Black Stars technical team in light of the challenges the team has been facing in recent times.
He indicated that, per the information he has gathered from the GFA, head coach Otto Addo’s performance has not met the clause he signed in the contract in terms of winning games and securing qualifications for tournaments.
The 2024 GJA Sports Journalist of the Year alleged that one of the options is to hire more competent technical team members to aid Addo and beef up his team.
On the other hand, should results remain the same without significant improvement in the team’s performance, coach Otto Addo is likely to be sacked and replaced by a top-notch coach to steer the affairs of the Black Stars, he said.
“Understand GFA is considering hiring more technical team members for Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March 2025. They are hiring a top-notch coach who can replace Otto Addo, who is believed to have failed to meet one clause in his contract,” Nabila wrote on X.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo has come under pressure in recent times after disappointing performances in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars lost to Angola by one goal to zero at the Baba Yara Stadium and drew one-all against Niger in the subsequent game.
The team could not turn things around as they drew goalless against Sudan, coached by Ghanaian James Kwasi Appiah, and lost by two goals to zero in the return leg at a neutral ground in Libya.
After four matches played, Ghana is third in Group F with two points, Sudan is in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with twelve points.
The Black Stars are on the brink of failing to qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years if Sudan wins any of their last two matches.
