Ghana Cycling Federation wants autonomy

Even before the Ghana Sports Bill is passed, the Ghana Cycling Federation is calling for autonomy to be able to have its own elected General Secretary and other officers.

The Federation goes to the polls on May 17 this year and most of the members and delegates are calling for an elected General Secretary to steer their affairs and not somebody controlled by the National sports Authority (NSA).

Dennis Moore, Public Relations officer and Communications Director of the Federation said it would be ideal if they had their elected General Secretary because he or she would have got the real mandate of those involved directly in the sport and that person would be able to push their programmes and agendas forward.

According to Moore, it is long overdue that they should be calling for and elected General Secretary and that would make the Federation more democratic and transparent.

He said Cycling could be dead if Promasidor. Producers of Cowbell products had not come on board to support and urged other corporate entities to sponsor the least financed sports disciplines, because they have the potential to win laurels at international sports events.

Cycling is an Olympic Sport and the nation may be represented in future Games.

Ghana boasts of talented and very strong riders like SWAG Best for 2013, Samuel Anim, Osman Omar, Henry Djangmah and others.
