Member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association Wilfred Kweku Osei Parmer has blasted defeated CAF President Issah Hayatou for being utterly greedy in pursuit of another term when it was clear Africa was fed up with him.

Parmer insists that the Cameroonian could have earned huge respect from the football world if he had resigned honourably instead of availing himself for the historic and embarrassing defeat.

“Hayatou should not have availed himself for the humiliation he went through. It was clear on the wall that Africa needed a change in direction and after ruling for 29 years, Hayatou should have known this,” Parmer noted in an interview with Joy FM.

“It is a sign of greediness that will compel someone who has ruled for 29 years to still aspire to rule again,” he added.

Hayatou’s 29-year reign as CAF President was crumbled by Madagascar’s Ahmad Ahmad in the recent elections at the Confederation’s general assembly in Addis Ababa.

The defeated Hayatou trailed the victorious Ahmad by 14 clear votes, an indication that Africa was rooting for a change in football direction.

The general election wind blew in the direction of ‘Team Ahmad’ as all Hayatou loyalists fell massively trailing their opponents with similar votes as himself.

The new CAF President Ahmad is however presented with a herculean task of transforming the continent’s most cherished sport following various agitations about the Hayatou regime.
