Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Johnson Asiama
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, has said that with intentional efforts to grow the sport, Ghana could host a global golf tournament.
He stated that the Bank of Ghana is committed to supporting golfing activities in the country and providing the necessary assistance to stakeholders to invest in and improve infrastructure.
Dr Asiama indicated that this would also require support from the government, corporate bodies, and international partners, who could collaborate to provide new lawns and other facilities needed to meet international standards.

Speaking at the 3i Africa Summit 2026 golf tournament held at the Achimota Golf Club on May 5, Dr Asiama called on the public to get involved in golf to help make the dream a reality.
“I also want to thank the sponsors and those who supported the organizers to pull this off brilliantly. For us at the Bank of Ghana, we believe this is a good initiative to support. Going forward, we will encourage more and more people to get involved in golf. I was having a conversation with my good friend, senior brother Frank, and I challenged him that we can host a world tournament. Who says we cannot? If we put our minds to it, it is possible.
“It’s about getting a new lawn somewhere, involving government, associating with a good cause, and seeking international support. Who knows, maybe in the next three years we can set ourselves the goal of hosting a world tournament. It is doable,” he remarked.
