Accra, Jan. 14, GNA - Ghana on Wednesday named her final 15-member cricket squad and three officials for the first-ever West Africa Under-15 Cricket Championship scheduled to kick-start in Sierra Leone from January 25 to February 2.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr David Quaigrine, Chairman of the Ghana Cricket Association and leader of delegation said the team is scheduled to leave Accra on the opening day of the tournament, January 25, two days before their first match against Nigeria.
The cricketers predominantly picked from the Anungle community area, near Achimota Secondary School also includes students from the Presbyterian Boys Secondary, Legon, Achimota Secondary School and the Ghana International School (GIS).
The players are made up of Michael Ayirewuje, Peter Ananya, Ken Nartey, Lawrence Ahadzi, Kofi Setsoafia, Jones Gohoho, Mark Bawa (Wicket Keeper), Kofi Bagabena and Moses Anafie
The rest are Eric Apedo, Obed Harvey, James Vifah, Mathew Bawah, Moses Djan and the captain, Sampson Aweh.
According to the statement copied to the GNA Sports, the coach, Eddie Nutsugah, Umpire Kwame Asare and Mr Quaigrine will be the accompanying officials.
The team will have its final trials on Sunday to smoothen some of the rough edges before they make the trip.
The tournament was originally scheduled to begin on January 15 but had to be re-scheduled because of the delay in the release of funds from the world governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC). The statement said the Association is also planning to introduce an inter-university cricket competition soon to produce more quality cricketers to represent the country.
