Go Ahead Eagles sack 'unnecessary' - Elvis Manu

Ghanaian-born Dutch winger, Elvis Manu has tagged as “unnecessary”, the decision of Go Ahead Eagles to terminate his loan contract over a harmless social media post.

Manu’s decision to make time out and wish his boyhood club Feyenoord well at a time the Eagles were preparing for a crucial game against Ajax Amsterdam in their bid to beat relegation did not go down well with his employers.

The club accused the 23-year-old of losing focus for the game they eventually lost 4-0 and further announced cutting short his loan contract.

Opening up for the first time on the incident, Manu who appeared on the #Cheers show on GHOne TV Saturday morning told host Nana Aba Anamoah the decision was needless.

“It was on a day that my former team Feyenoord could win the league so I posted “Good luck” on social media and I had problems with it because they thought that I wasn’t focused on my game.

“I think it was unnecessary to send somebody away for posting something on social media wishing your former team good luck.

“The thing was it was one game before the end of the season. I was just wishing my former team well. I played for them for over ten years,” he said on GHOne TV.

Elvis Manu was on a season-long loan from English side Brighton and Hove Albion who have now secured promotion to the Premier League for the 2017/18 season.
