Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has been voted the Best Player of the Round in the Chinese Super League following his impressive debut for Shanghai SIPG on Thursday.
The 29-year-old came on as a second half substitute to great effect to help his team beat Tianjin Teda to overtake Beijing Gouan at the top of the league.
Gyan who is yet to hit full fitness as he only had one training session with his new team before the game, won a penalty for his side to draw level minutes after coming on.
He then went on to score what eventually proved to be the winner as he completed a dream debut for his title-chasing Chinese club.
Gyan on Thursday night was named the Best Player of the Round of 19 matches after bagging 77 percent of the total votes cast.
This accolade is voted for by members of the Chinese media to award the best performer in each round of the Chinese Super League.
Gyan managed to do just enough to capture the attention of the Chinese media into voting him the Best Player of the Round despite playing just 45 minutes of the game.
The Black Stars captain is even yet to hit his optimum fitness level as he was even rushed into playing the game on Thursday – the first competitive piece of action he’s had in close to two months.
Gyan was to return to Al Ain to begin pre-season with them ahead of their domestic title defence but rather returned to pack his bags to Shanghai to complete a mega two-year move to the Port club.
He is now expected to play an even bigger role when Shanghai travel to play second-placed Beijing Gouan on Monday.
