Columbus Crew defender Harrison Afful has had his red card rescinded after the MLS board decided his tackle did not merit a straight sending off.
Afful was shown a straight red in the 74th minute last Saturday night for a challenge on D.C. United’s Marcelo Sarvas during a 1-1 draw.
Replays clearly showed the fullback drove through the ball and never made contact with the United midfielder, who embellished the collision and drew the foul.
The 10-man Crew ended up surrendering a late goal to drop two critical points in the standings.
Coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter sounded confident Monday morning the club would win its appeal.
And dully the three-member panel who sat on the case have decided against punishing the defender anymore.
