Former Kotoko chairman Herbert Mensah has warned Dr. KK Sarpong to drop his legal action against the Kumasi-based giants and apologise to the Asantehene or face ‘bad luck’ in his life, if he presses ahead with the court action over monies owed him.

Mensah, who remains a hugely popular figure among Kotoko fans, says the decision by former board chairman of the club to take legal action against the club is sacrilegious and tantamount to sending the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the owner of the club, to court.

Dr Sarpong, who was appointed by the Otumfuo to run the club, resigned from his position two seasons ago after allegations of bad transfer deals grew while speculation of his impending firing by the spiritual head of club became public.

He has taken the club to court for owing him an amount of five hundred and thirty-six thousand, two hundred and forty-seven Ghana cedis [GHC 536,247.00], an amount he spent on the giants while he was in charge of the club.

However, Mensah says it is a wrong decision for Dr Sarpong to send Kotoko to court even though he admits running the club has left many past administrator of the club saddled with huge debts.

“I will like to mention on record that when you enter Kotoko it changes your life, very few people leave Kotoko and are still standing,” Mensah told Atinka FM.

“Your drain your sweat, your emotions , your money into the club that you love and with what you love you are not expected to now go and demand from your wife oh I bought you this shirt so give it back to me.

“I mean it is a very peculiar thing for an educated person to do. “The other thing is this, that when you enter into Asante Kotoko, you’re there as a special request and guest of Otumfuo and so if you don’t believe in the power of the seat of Otumfuo then you should not be at Kotoko, you should not be chairman of Kotoko.

“It is an institution that is not like any corporate entity..the club belongs to the people and the spiritual head is Otumfuo.

“You have to be so careful when you run Kotoko, you can’t run it as your private business but on the other side it is still an institution which makes it the biggest club in Ghana and one of the biggest in Africa.

“So when you finish, you cannot go and take on the spiritual head of the club to say you’re taking him into a court.

“People have done it but now look at what has happened to some of them who have done it..all they’ve in their life is bad luck.

Mensah says Dr Sarpong must withdraw the court action and apologise to the Otumfuo and consider the amount owed the club as bad debt.
