Former Ghana U17 steamroller Ishmael Yartey crowned his debut in the Finnish top-flight league by picking the Most Valuable Player of the match award on Sunday.

The 29-year-old powered home the match winner for KPV with a thunderous half-volley from inside the box in the 65th minute at the Kokkolan Stadium.

KPV needed the maximum points to close up the ladder in the relegation zone and it took the show of the winger to snatch all three points for the hosts.

Finnish international Enoch Banza squeezed home the opener for KPV 11 minutes after the break but Estonian Ats Purje, 33, pulled parity for the visitors to silence the home fans.

While the visitors were getting hopeful Yartey combined well with Banza to net the winner for the host.

He positioned himself well inside the box to pick a pass from Banza, who turned his marker inside out, before planting the ball firmly beyond the visitors’ keeper with a powerful half-volley.

Yartey joined KPV after leaving Swiss side FC Sion and having a brief spell at Stade Lyonnais.

He was presented with the award at the final whistle as fans cheered to his name for his impressive performance in the game.

KPV are immediately reaping profit for acquiring the services of the attacker.
