Ghanaian midfielder James Kotei has clarified the comments he made some time ago about the quality of the South African Premier League.

Kotei spent just a season with South African giants Kaiser Chiefs after joining from Tanzanian outfit Simba FC in July 2019.

The 26-year-old, who did not find his feet in the Rainbow nation, is alleged to have made a negative comment about the Absa Premier League lacking quality.

Kotei reportedly praised the Tanzanian League for their quality, and as quoted by Tanzania’s Daily News.

However, the midfielder has come out to clear the air, saying that his message might have been misconstrued during an interview with Siya crew.

“I would like to address the issue that I said South African league is not a quality league but the camera league. That is not true!” he said.

“A Tanzanian television station called me and I was making reference to their league that it’s a good league because at times people look down on them, and that I had been in South Africa and what I saw is that their branding and coverage is super. In Tanzania it’s not easy,” the central midfielder added.

“In South Africa they play normal football the way it is played in the world. That was my explanation to them. South African league and the Egyptian league are recognised big time. So, how can I belittle the league,” Kotei told the Siya crew.

Kotei is currently with Salvia Mozyr in the Belarusian Premier League, having joined them in January after his unsuccessful six-month stint in Naturena.
