Ghana forward Jordan Ayew has been named the Player of the Match in Leicester City's EFL Cup victory over Tranmere Rovers.

The Black Stars forward inspired the Foxes to a thumping win after scoring and delivering an assist in the 4-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.

Ayew received over 61% of votes from fans of the club to beat Stephy Mavididi and Nigerian midfielder Wilfried Ndidi to the top award.

The 32-year-old joined Leicester City in the summer transfer window after ending his six-year stay at South London with Crystal Palace.

Ayew is expected to play a huge role in the former English champions' campaign following his enormous experience in the Premier League. The former Aston Villa and Swansea City star has over 200 appearances in the English Premier League.

"It (Ayew’s goal) was really important in the game because we needed attacking players to do something to make a difference. He did that. He had a good impact in the game, scored, got the right amount of minutes and that’s something we would have written if we could have planned it," said Steve Cooper as he praised the Ghanaian striker's performance.

“He’s obviously an experienced player and he’ll be determined to do well for us now in the Premier League. He was so keen to come here and we look forward to involving him and we’re going to need him alongside everyone else as well.”
