Former Ghanaian international Sammy Osei Kuffour says playing for Ghana for thirteen years without any silver ware is his biggest regret.
The 38-year-old Defender won over 17 major titles including the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich in a career which lasted for a decade but could not replicate that at the national level.
Kuffour won his first Ghana cap as a 17-year old in a game against Sierra Leone back in 1993 and retired after the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
The Ex BBC African Footballer of the Year who won 59 caps for Ghana tells XYZ Sports that the greatest regret in his flourishing football career is not to have won any major Silverware with the Black Stars.
“We couldn’t win anything and for me that is the sad thing in my life,” Kuffuor told XYZ Sports.
“Sometimes when I sit down and analyze my life in terms of football and realize that I couldn’t win anything for the senior national team, it pains me,” he added.
“There’s nothing that I can be proud of and show to my children that I won whilst playing for the Black Stars”.
The former Livorno and AS Roma player expressed joy about the honour that comes with playing at the World Cup. He is the only Ghanaian Player to have played for all the various national teams in an International career which lasted for thirteen (13) years.
“It was great for me playing at the World Cup in 2006 because that is the dream of every footballer but absolutely there’s nothing special about playing for Ghana apart from the jersey that I used at the World Cup”
“I have no medal to show to my children in future and that is the regret I have for playing for the Black Stars”
“It saddens my heart so much that I served my nation for years without winning any medal,” Kuffuor concluded.
