Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah has welcomed Caf's decision to switch the Africa Cup of Nations from January/February to June/July.

On Thursday, Caf Executive Committee passed a resolution to move the tournament from its normal schedule to a new date following a proposal from the first African Football Symposium a day before.

Although the news has generated mixed reactions, many say the decision will put to bed the usual club-vs-country player conundrum that always accompanies the continental showpiece.

"I never would have had that problem myself," Appiah told the BBC.

"But you probably do get some players who pull out because they don't want to leave or upset their club.

"They don't want to lose their place in the team.

"No manager would come out openly and say I don't want my player to play in this tournament.

"But I'm sure there is some pressure behind closed doors."

According to Caf, the new order will commence from the 2019 Afcon in Cameroon.

Appiah, currently on the books of English third tier side AFC Wimbledon, played for Ghana as the Black Stars reached the final of the 2015 tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
