Leicester City determined to keep hold of Daniel Amartey despite several interest

English Premier League side Leicester City are keen to keep hold of Daniel Amartey despite attracting plenty of interest in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Ghana defender has attracted plenty of interest this summer with relegated Premier League trio West Brom, Stoke City and Swansea all said to have enquired about his availability.

The 23-year-old has struggled to break into the City side since his £5 million move from Copenhagen in January 2016 and was mainly used as an alternative to right-back Danny Simpson last season, before missing the end of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

Amartey's future did appear in doubt with Claude Puel's squad currently overflowing with central midfield options as Amartey competes with Vicente Iborra, Wilfred Ndidi, Adrien Silva, Andy King, Matty James, Hamza Choudhury and Papy Mendy.

Some of them will need to be sold this summer if Puel is to find the good balance he wants in his squad. However, reports indicate that the Foxes are not actively looking to move Amartey on this window.

The former FC Copenhagen ace has shown his versatility while at Leicester, playing at right-back and in central midfield while also impressing at centre-back for his country Ghana.

While never really being given a chance to show what he can do in defence during his time at the King Power Stadium, his versatility could come in handy this season, especially if Puel is looking to shift to play three central defenders.

Puel has Harry Maguire, new signing Jonny Evans, captain Wes Morgan and Yohan Benalouane at his disposal, as well as development squad stars Josh Knight and Sam Hughes, but Amartey could offer another option.
