Ghana Black Stars duo, Daniel Amartey and Jeffery Schlupp, and their other other Leicester City heroes will have the city's streets named after them if they hold on to win the Premier League title.

The Foxes are seven points clear at the top of the standings after a remarkable 12 months which has seen them climb from the foot of the table to the very top.

They can now win the league title in just three weeks time if they continue to win and their rivals drop points.

Leicester's mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, has revealed that the city council have been inundated with requests to honour Jamie vardy after he broke a Premier League goalscoring record earlier this season.

He beat former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistlerooy's record by scoring in 11 consecutive top flight fixtures.

But Soulsby believes the whole team should be honoured - not just Vardy.

He told The Times: “It has been a real team effort, so as well as Vardy Vale we would need to have Schmeichel Street, Drinkwater Drive and Ranieri Road.

“Leicester has honoured its sporting stars in the past. There is an area named after golfers and there is also a Lineker Road [named after Gary Lineker].”

Over 10,000 people gathered in Leicester city centre when the club were promoted from the Championship into the Premier League.

Soulsby insists that they will go bigger and better if they hold out and win the title this season.

“Anything we do is going to be a much bigger event than that was - Town Hall Square will not be big enough this time,” he said.
