Matilda Amissah-Arthur: Don't allow politics to divide us

The Wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has appealed to the people of western region not to allow politics to divide them, a situation that after elections it sets families, ethnic groups and religions against each other, contrary to the democratic constitution of the country.

She said: “the people of the region must unite for the development of the region towards peace, unity and accelerated socio-economic development of the region.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur said this on Monday when she donated a quantity of medical equipment and educational materials valued at millions of cedis to three hospitals and a library in the Western Region.

They are Daboase Health Centre, Mpohor Health Centre, Shama Health Centre and the Shama Library in the Shama District in the western region.

She appealed to citizens in the region not to allow partisan politics to reduce the peaceful communal cohesion in the area into hatred, acrimony and conflicts since we all have one Ghana.

She added that in most cases, MP’s are friends and they do not allow politics to divide them in parliament compared to what party supporters do outside and engage in unhealthy rivalry, which sometimes degenerate into conflicts and destruction of lives and property.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur said what is key in the region is uniting for development, since the region has a lot of natural resources that can be tapped when they come together as one and focus on the development of the region, stressing that the divisions and party rivalry is not helping, so the need to put politics aside and live in one people.

The second lady further stated that in touring the various districts and areas, she doesn’t look at whether the area has an NPP MP or NDC MP, what is key to her is the welfare and development of the area.

The NPP Member of Parliament for Mpohor in the Western Region, Hon Alex Agyekum praised the Second lady for her good works especially her motherly love by giving to the less privileged in society in the area of education and health care delivery in the country.

He said in developing an area we must as a people put aside politics and focus on the development.

Hon Agyekum explained that he was on his way to Accra when the news reached him that the Second Lady was visiting his area.

He said it was appropriate to put politics aside and get back to the constituency to join the Second Lady with her humanitarian work and give her the needed respect.
