Ghana U-23 defender Baba Mensah has declared that the team’s tactical approach and discipline were instrumental in their 2-0 win over Mozambique in the All Africa Games qualifier on Sunday.

The Black Meteors scored two goals in the second half to overturn a lone-goal deficit from the first leg played in Maputo weeks ago.

The visitors conceded an own goal in the 73rd minute before Bright Adjei struck in the winner moments from fulltime to seal the defending champions’ qualification to the African Games set for Brazzaville in Congo next September.

A number of factors led to that achievement, according to Mensah.

“It was a cool game although it was very hard. We were tactically good on the pitch and very disciplined, which together saw us through,” he told Goal.

“The first leg in Maputo wasn’t much different from the second. The most important thing was that we took our chances in the second half and carried the day,” he said.

“Concerning the All Africa Games, we are the defending champions and we’ll be going all out to retain the title with determination, hard work and prayers.

“Our next focus would be the 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers and we are determined to do everything possible to book our place which will be our first since Athens 2004,” he said.

The Inter Allies player is also a member of the local Black Stars who will participate in the qualifiers of the 2016 African Nations Championship.
