Asante Kotoko returned to action on Wednesday at the Baba Yara Stadium with a 2-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in the Normalization Committee Special Competition.

The Porcupine Warriors dominated the early exchanges with some fine combination plays in midfield without really troubling the steady Chelsea defense.

The game continued in the same pattern and eventually ended 0-0 in the first half.

Emmanuel Gyamfi finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when he got on the end of Jordan Opoku’s cross to head the hosts in front.

Gyamfi squandered a glorious opportunity to make it 2-0 two minutes after Fatawu Safiu’s through pass put him one on one with the goalkeeper only for the diminutive winger to shoot a whisker of the right post.

Kotoko were awarded a controversial penalty in the 67th minute after goalkeeper Gideon Ahenkorah was adjudged to have brought down Obed Owusu.

Abdul Fatawu Safiu stepped up and converted with a beautiful ‘panenka’ to double their lead and seal the win.

The red-hot attacker has now scored six goals in six games in the competition.

The Porcupines are unbeaten in their last four games winning three and drawing one in the process.

Kotoko lead the Zone A log with 13 points.
