Accra , Dec 08, GNA - A team of officials made up of Worlanyo Agra, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mohammed Shaanoon, Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Max Vandon, Executive Secretary of the National Council of People with Disability (NCPD) has called on the national Paralympic team currently camping at the hostel of the National Hockey Pitch in Accra.
The visit was to motivate the national team to give off their best in the impending 4th Para-cycling Championship to be hosted by Ghana on Saturday and Sunday.
Ghana will be seeking to accrue points from the championship to secure qualification to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
So far, South Africa, Burkina Faso and Albania have cemented their participation and would be in the country on Thursday 8th December 2011, whilst Kenya has announced their withdrawal from the championships.
The event will be held on the Nima – Kanda Highway, with routes starting from the Rugga roundabout (before the Kawukudi junction) through the Nima Highway to the Ridge –Electoral Commission roundabout and back to the starting point around the Czech Embassy.
In view of the week-end event, the entire stretch of the road will be closed during the event on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December, 2011. The event is expected to attract public interest since this is the first time Ghana is hosting such an event with the blind, disabled persons and physically challenged participating in cycling race known as para-cycling.
