Former France defender, Marcel Desailly has insisted that he has no regrets for not winning the English Premier League title during his time with Chelsea.

The 42-year-old joined the London based club in 1998 after winning several laurels with Olympique Marseille and Ac Millan.

He spent six seasons at the club before leaving to join Qatar based club Al- Gharafa.

Desailly came close to winning the English Premier League title in 2003/2004.

According to Desailly, Chelsea deserved to win that title but destiny wanted Arsenal to win it.

“In 2004/2005 Chelsea won the Premier League, I have been at Chelsea from 1998 to 2004. We almost win the league in 2003/4 but the invincible of Arsenal took it from us. That one was for us but destiny wanted Arsenal to win it.

“Chelsea won it a year after I left, and it was like I won it because I was the captain previous captain.

“It’s true we had a good team. We developed the winning mentality because the club was not all that known. When I came in 1998, they won the cup winners cup.

“Zola, Gustavo Poyet all these international players have built the winning mentality and the professionality into the English system. How to keep the ball and play with the ball.

“Abromovich came first that was 2003/2004, and then the following year they brought Mourinho to build the winning team and begin the Chelsea era. I’m very pleased and am a Chelsea fan, AC Millian and Lyon.

“It doesn’t pain me much. It pains me I lost the intercontinental cup. I went there after they won the cup. But I’m fine. I have been lucky let’s not exaggerate things. We need to share a little bit for others because I have won everything," he added.
