The Ghana Premier League could have a new development next season as games which end in a draw will go to penalty shootout to determine the winner, Goal.com Ghana understands.

This new development which is already before the Premier League Board is a means aimed at improving the act of penalty conversion among players when they go on any national assignment.

According to the FA technical director, Samuel Francis Oti Akenteng, the idea was put up by one Laryea and he has taken it to the higher authorities for consideration as penalty shootout has been a bane to the progress of Ghana football in recent times.

Goal.com Ghana also learned that if the proposal is adopted a club that will win on penalties will take two points whilst the loser will go home with a point.

This development which was actually implemented in the Ghana league in the early 90s helped the west African country to boast of good penalty takers as the country converted as many as 10 of them in the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal against Cote d'Ivoire in the final.

Ghana have lost two major tournaments - World Cup quarter-final clash against Uruguay and 2013 Afcon semi-final against Burkina Faso - in the last three years due to penalty shootout.
