The Black Stars of Ghana are gunning for a win against South Africa to get their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign off to a positive start.

Tonight’s clash will be the start of the road to Cameroon for the 33rd edition of the continental showpiece.

The four time African Champions are set to lock horns with Bafana Bafana at the 15,000 capacity Cape Coast Stadium in the opening match of Group C.

Kick off is at 7pm local time.

Head to Head record:

The Black Stars have played Bafana on 12 occasions – 3 wins, 5 draws and 4 defeats – with the first clash dating back to November 1994.

But Kwesi Appiah’s side can take solace from the fact that South Africa haven’t beaten Ghana in a competitive game since February 2000, and have only won one of their last eight meetings (August 2010) since then.

In their most recent competitive meeting, Ghana ran out 2-1 winners at the 2015 Afcon in Equatorial Guinea.

Team News:

GHANA- SC Paderborn winger Christopher Antwi-Adjei has joined the team in camp today. He will, however, not be part of the match-day squad due to his late arrival.

Defender Lumor Agbenyenu has been ruled out of this evening’s match after a scan in Accra confirmed he has torn his muscle. He has been released to return to his club, Real Mallorca for further assessment and treatment.

Defender Joseph Attamah Larweh has received a late call-up to the squad. The Caykur Rizespor player has already trained with the team and he is available for selection this evening.

SOUTH AFRICA- coach Molefi Ntseki can count on his full squad for tonight’s game.

Predicted Starting XI for Ghana: Richard Ofori, Gideon Mensah, Kassim Nuhu, Joseph Aidoo, Andy Yiadom, Kudus Mohammed, Thomas Partey, Alfred Duncan, Patrick Twumasi, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew

Predicted Starting XI for South Africa: Darren Keet, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Buhle Mkhwanazi, S’fiso Hlanti, Bongani Zungu, Dean Furman, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Percy Tau, Lebo Mothiba, Thembinkosi Lorch.
