Sports Minister tours Essipong, Gyandu Park

Alhaji Mustaph Ahmed, Minister of Youth and Sports, on Thursday said there was a growing need for private sector participation in the development of the country’s sports.

Alhaji Ahmed who was speaking to the media after a visit to the Sekondi Sports Stadium at Essipong, said that, “I believe in the private sector participation in the country’s sports development”.

He said he was impressed with facilities at the stadium but hotel and restaurant facilities must be completed to bring revenue for the management of the stadium.

Alhaji Ahmed noted that the stadium had water problems and roofs in some part of the facility had been ripped off.

He said that electricity supply to the stadium had been disconnected for the past six months due to accumulated bills.

The visit forms part of the Minister's tour of facilities and agencies under the ministry since his appointment.
