Ghana international Alexander Djiku was in action for Fenerbahçe on Tuesday night when the team defeated Lugano 4-3 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League playoff tie.
The Turkish giants locked horns with the team from Switzerland to fight for a win that will help them secure qualification to compete in next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.
In a game played at a neutral ground, Lugano took the lead after just four minutes through a strike from El Wafi.
After going behind, Fenerbahçe had to dig deep to get back into the game and restore parity through an Edin Dzeko equalizer in the 45th minute.
After the recess, the veteran striker scored two more goals to propel Fenerbahçe to a 4-3 victory at the end of the 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, Ferdi Kadioglu netted the fourth goal for the Turkish side.
For Lugano, Uran Bislimi and Milton Valenzuela netted the other consolation goals.
Ghana’s Alexander Djiku played the entire duration of the game.
