Black Stars captain Andre Ayew scored a consolation goal for Le Havre in their 5-1 loss to Marseille in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Playing against his former club, Ayew was visibly emotional as he received a standing ovation from Marseille fans after scoring the goal.
With just five minutes left on the clock, Antoine Joujou delivered a cross from the right-hand side. With the Marseille goalkeeper rushing off his line, Ayew brilliantly looped his header over him.
In a gesture of respect, Ayew refrained from celebrating his goal against his former team.
The goal marked the 35-year-old’s first of the 2024/25 league season. With two minutes left to play, Le Havre coach Didier Digard made a classy gesture by substituting Ayew, allowing him to receive a standing ovation from all four corners of the Stade Vélodrome.
