Ghana and Celtic midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has reacted to Ghana’s AFCON 2017 draw with content and vowed to do all he can to put a smile on the face of Ghanaians.

The 24-year-old midfielder has moved from being only a talent to a frightening consistent performer for the national team.

Wakaso who has enjoyed stellar AFCON tournament football in South Africa 2013 and just recently in Equatorial Guinea where Ghana finished second is confident of sailing through a group which contains Mauritius, Rwanda and Mozambique.

“They are all good countries that have loved and improved in the game these days,” Wakaso told Ghana’s number one soccer portal GHANAsoccernet.com

“But we know what is required of us and we will have to go out and do our work well to achieve the desired results.”

The Black Stars have endured frustrating AFCON campaigns making six semi-final berths in the last six editions but failing to annex the trophy on all occasions.

Ghana was the first country to win four AFCON trophies but have seen their dominance bettered by Egypt who are now the pace setters with Six trophies to their name.

But Wakaso says he and his colleagues will fight with all they have to win that elusive fifth trophy.

“We have come close on a number of occasions and have missed it by the edge but the feeling is that we are getting there,”

“We will do all we can to win that trophy and put a smile on the faces of Ghanaians.”

The 8-9 penalty shot-out loss to Ivory Coast means Ghana will have to try again and it begins with the qualifier game against Mauritius in September later this year.
