Time to StepApp the Game as we near the Launch
This is the most difficult blog I have written since I started communicating with my fans because I was hoping that the Black Metoers would defeat the Nigerians to qualify for the Olympic Games. I was at the stadium with my Black Stars colleagues on Friday and watched in massive disappointment as the Nigerians held us to a 0-0 draw. I think all is not lost yet. We still have a very slim chance of qualifying which is out of our hands. But even if we don’t qualify I think we have a fantastic group of players who should be encouraged. I think if we keep them for friendly matches they will take up the mantle when some of us have retired from football.
The four-nation tournament starts for us on Sunday when we play Togo at the Ohene Djan Stadium for the first time in two years. I am very happy with the way the stadium has been rebuilt and I know that the investment that has been made is geared towards making football better in the country. I can assure Ghanaians that we will also reciprocate this gesture by getting the results.
I arrived at our camp on Wednesday and I was very happy with the attendance and the spirit in the camp.
There are some new players in the team like Moussa Narry, Sadat Bukari and we have tried our level best to ensure that they are fully integrated in the squad. It is important that all players are given their chance before the Nations Cup squad is announced. I am confident that we can win this four-nation tournament to give us the necessary confidence for the Nations Cup. After training on Friday we received donations from our sponsors MTN and Guinness. On Monday my foundation and clothing range StepApp, will be launched and I am happy with the feedback I have had so far on the launch. The support has been great and the number of people wanting to attend tells me that Ghanaians and people all over the world are keen on supporting my desire of helping the needy.
Togo and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has positively surprised me by saying that he wants to support the brand and the foundation and I am really proud of him. Manu is not the only top footballer who has privately called to back the idea and vowed to support. Michael Essien and loads of other top stars are keen to support me and I also need the help of everybody to get this project off the ground. I know when the time comes for you all to patronize this high quality brand you will not fail.
