FOR 20-yr-old Udinese youngster, Kwadwo Asamoah, it couldn't have come at a better time to make a mark for himself in the senior national team than to score a well timed 30-yard scorcher which opened the floodgates for a resounding 2-0 win over Mali in a World Cup qualifier. The goal which sent the nation into raptures will forever be remembered for its precision and timing as it came against the run of play.
Talking to 90 Minutes after the Stars arrival from Mali, the former Liberty Professional midfielder who has been linked with both Inter Milan and Juventus was glad to have netted in his first starting berth for the Black Stars. “I am very happy because it was my first start in the senior national team and to have crowned my efforts with a goal is something that I could only dream of,” he said. “There was no pressure on me to excel because I believe that playing in the Serie A has given me the needed exposure in terms of big games.”
With football fans suddenly clamouring for him to replace Sulley Muntari in the starting eleven of the Black Stars, Asamoah seemed uninterested and said his main pre-occupation is to do well anytime he's called upon to do the job.
“For me, I'm not really bothered about starting a game or coming in from the bench. The most important things is to give my absolute best whenever I'm selected to play for Ghana and that's exactly what I'm going to do anytime I don the national colours, ” he added.
Asamoah remained tightlipped on his possible move from Udinese to Juventus this summer as it has been widely speculated in the Italian media saying he would only get to know when he returns for pre-season with Udinese. He however thanked Ghanaians for their tremendous support which went a long way in helping the Stars to beat the Malians.
