Beckham was at 3 World cups- 1998, 2002 and 2006. Okocha was also at 3 World cups- 1994, 1998 and 2002. England did not qualify for the 1994 World Cup in the USA, where Nigeria debuted with Okocha. However you look at it Okocha was miles away from Beckham in terms of football skills and performance in their times. Racism and Discrimination made Okocha not to win Ballon Dor or World player in his time.

That Okocha was outshined by Charles Taylor (then Hearts' player when Coach Jones decided to use the entire Hearts Team against Nigeria) in a world cup qualifier in Accra shows that he was no special talent!

Besides free-kicks, Beckham was also an average player, hyped by the English to satisfy their ego.

If the best player Nigeria can boast f is Okocha, then our Nija brothers have a problem and it no wonder they have been under-achievers in football considering their size and talents they have.

Okocha was by far a better player than Beckham. He was more skillful and technically gifted than Beckham. Beckham was only good with dead ball situations especially free kicks, period. Okocha was an all round footballer and complete player compared to Beckham. The problem then was that African players struggled to get contracts with big European Clubs partially because of racial discrimination compared to nowadays. It wasn't because they lack ability. Okocha wasn't the only talented African footballer affected. The likes of Kalusha Bwalya and our own Abedi Pele who did wonders with the ball in the late eighties and early nineties were also affected. Abedi pele was only noticed because he was fortunate to play for Marseille later in his career especially in that epic European cup final against AC Milan where he outplayed and outshined the global Superstars of AC Milan in midfield like Gullit and Lentini. Beckham is nowhere near any of these African greats in natural footballing talent. Africans like Lartin Americans are not thought football in soccer academies and schools. It is a natural gift. This is why European countries struggle with African teams despite the endemic problems of poor organization, corruption and lack of resources with most FAs in Africa. Allardyce should stop comparing apples with mangoes.
