I was in London when the Crystal Palace stadium hosted the World Day of Prayer. It was a massive event attended by thousands, but the stadium was not destroyed.

Most stadiums are constructed for multi-purpose use. Stadiums can have other events like one scheduled in Accra as long as they cover up the field with a tarpaulin to prevent damage to the playing field. I don't think the officials in charge of Accra sports are covering the field with tarpaulin, but instead have chosen to confine the congregation in the stands. It remains to be seen how they are going to prevent the congregation from venturing onto the uncovered field.
