  I believe Diaz chose to play a Panenka for several reasons, to imitate what his teammate, Hakimi did at the World Cup, prove his own pedigree to Moroccans as a top player and by humiliating their goalkeeper, convince Senegal that they had lost to a better team. It backfired. The thing about Panenka’s is, if you score it is beautiful and you are top class, but if you miss, it looks UGLY. Diaz had too much time to think and he overthought. The Senegalese goalie Mendy, was level headed while Brahim Diaz was hot headed.
