As the Ghana national football team prepare to face the formidable Germany national football team on Monday, March 30, 2026, head coach Otto Addo delivered a colourful and revealing press conference on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

From humorous culinary comparisons to subtle jabs about club coaching influences, Otto Addo addressed Ghana’s tactical philosophy, attacking struggles and the development of key forward Antoine Semenyo.

One of the most memorable moments came when Addo used a distinctly Ghanaian culinary analogy to explain how he approaches matches tactically.

“When I eat fufu, I use my hand. When I eat soup, I use a spoon. And when I eat rice, I use a fork,” he said.

The metaphor, simple but vivid, reflected his football philosophy: Ghana adapts to the opponent rather than sticking rigidly to one style.

Just as different meals require different utensils, Otto Addo believes different opponents require different tactical responses.

The Ghana coach also addressed concerns about the team’s attacking output.

While acknowledging the issue, he pointed out that national team coaches often have limited time to reshape players who arrive from clubs with different systems.

“The players have different coaches with different ideas. As for training on shooting on target, maybe you have to ask their coaches. Maybe Pep Guardiola or whoever,” he explained.

Addo reserved some of his most heartfelt comments for Semenyo, revealing that the striker’s development is something he has thought deeply about, sometimes even losing sleep over.

“Sometimes I don’t sleep trying to answer this question about getting the best out of Semenyo,” Addo admitted.

He also pushed back against earlier criticism of the forward, recalling how the Black Stars coaching staff supported him during the early stages of his career.

“We got him when he was at Bristol, we guided him, and he went to Bournemouth and now he’s at Manchester City. We are very happy that he is at this stage,” he added.

Addo also revisited Ghana’s recent 5–1 defeat to the Austria national football team, insisting the scoreline did not fully reflect the balance of the game.

“The result was not as big as it was. It could have been 1–1 or even 1–0 for us,” he said.

However, the coach admitted he was disappointed by the team’s reaction after conceding goals, pointing specifically to their body language as an area that needs improvement.

Despite the setback and the challenge ahead, Addo struck an optimistic tone when looking toward the Germany clash.

“Even though we will face an even stronger opponent, we are very optimistic that we can handle the situation,” he said.
