Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (L) and Mubarak Wakaso (R)
A growing debate has erupted among Ghanaian football fans over selection logic ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Mubarak Wakaso being at the centre of the argument.
The discussion was triggered after comparisons were drawn between past and present selection decisions, with fans questioning consistency in how injured or inactive players are treated in national team planning.
Kyereh, who has endured a long spell on the sidelines following injury setbacks, has recently been mentioned in conversations about a possible return to the Black Stars setup after he made a comeback.
His case has divided opinion, with some arguing that fitness and match sharpness should be the key requirements.

On one side, supporters of Kyereh’s potential inclusion argue that the conversation is being unfairly framed, insisting that the same logic used in past decisions should apply again.
One fan pointed to precedent, saying: “If Wakaso was good enough to be taken to AFCON in 2021, then Kyereh’s situation should not be strange. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”
Another group also backed Kyereh more directly, arguing that he remains a valuable option if he is progressing well in recovery and could be eased back into the setup before the World Cup.
However, a strong counter-view insists that selection must be strictly merit-based and grounded in current fitness levels.
Critics of the Kyereh discussion questioned his readiness.
Some fans also revisited the Wakaso comparisons, arguing that past decisions should not automatically justify future selections, warning against what they called inconsistent standards in national team planning.
