Pitso Mosimane won back-to-back CAF Champions League titles with Al Ahly
Legendary African coach, Pitso Mosimane has disclosed that the short-term deal offered by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the Black Stars coaching job was not appealing to him.
According to him, playing only a few matches at a tournament to justify one’s potential within such a short period is not ideal. He described it as “limiting” and unlikely to yield the expected results.
The iconic coach, who won back-to-back CAF Champions League titles with Al Ahly, noted that he was surprised Carlos Queiroz accepted such a deal considering his profile.

Speaking in an interview with Radio 947, Mosimane asserted that rebuilding a team requires more matches for thorough assessment, which makes short-term contracts problematic for him.
“For two months, for one game, three games, four games… maybe I don’t want three or four games, right? Because for whatever reason, maybe Carlos says, ‘Why not, let me go have fun, let me go to the World Cup again.’ So it depends how you see it. If you ask me, it’s not ideal for me to go for three or four games.
“Carlos Queiroz is a big coach, very respectable. Maybe he feels, ‘I’ve got nothing to lose, let me go.’ But I look at it differently. I’ve had nine months, maybe ten, to recharge my batteries. Do I want to go for three months and then look around again after? No, maybe not,” he explained.
Mosimane, a five-time South African Premier Soccer League title winner, confirmed that he received a call from a GFA official, but it never translated into anything concrete.
“I guess there was a little bit of talk. When I asked my office, they said, ‘Yes, there’s been a talk.’ But there was never anything concrete. Concrete is when a letter comes saying, ‘We would like to have you, can we have a conversation over this?’ A call from a Ghana official, for me, is not really a serious talk,” he added.
